AI cam video call: which app actually puts her on camera?

AI cam video call: which app actually puts her on camera?

FlirtCam, JOI AI, Candy.ai, Nemora: who really does live video, what five minutes costs in tokens, and how to test a call before your card comes out.

Nobody is on the other end of that camera. Worth saying first, because the whole category is built on making you forget it.

An AI cam call puts a face on screen, in motion, reacting while you talk. No webcam, no performer, no studio. A model renders that face frame by frame and a voice engine speaks over it. What separates the apps is how well they hide the seams, and how hard they meter what you just watched.

Several sell something they call a video call, and they do not mean the same thing by it. Here is what each gives you, and what it costs once the subscription is paid.

In short

  • FlirtCam builds the whole product around the simulated call, from an EU-registered operator, at $12.99 a month down to $5.99 annual.
  • JOI AI renders a genuinely live call, at 2,000 Neurons per five minutes.
  • Candy.ai skips the call format for Live Action: up to 120 seconds of your character moving, some of it steerable in real time.
  • Nemora and Lovescape bolt video onto something else, a scored scenario and an image engine.
  • The subscription is never the real price. Video is metered separately on all of them.

What an AI cam video call actually is

Three mechanics get sold under the same two words, and the gap between them decides what you get.

The simulated call. A generated face in a call-shaped interface, with expressions and a voice, reacting to what you type. FlirtCam is built on this. Its own site says it plainly: AI-generated simulated calls, nobody real behind the camera, rendered by an engine called Seedance 2.0.

The live call. JOI AI renders on the fly rather than serving a pre-made clip. Closer to a real video call, and priced accordingly.

The clip. Everything else. You ask, the model renders five seconds, ten, up to 120, and it lands in the thread. Candy.ai, Nemora, Lovescape, OurDream AI and Promptchan all work this way.

One thing muddies the search results: Candy.ai’s homepage carries a “Candy Cams” section with live-tagged profiles, and never says whether those are AI renders styled as live or a crossover with real performers. We could not confirm either way.

FlirtCam: the video call is the whole product

FlirtCam flips the proposition. Everywhere else text is the product and video the upsell. Here the call is the product, the chat the accessory.

On raw video quality it delivers: it feels like talking to someone in real life. The builder is unusually direct too, asking sexuality and ethnicity outright before you touch a personality trait. Vice and GQ have both name-checked it, rare this early.

Now the parts the sales page skips.

  • Video tokens drain far faster than the marketing implies. Complaint number one from heavy users. Expect around 1,000 included, with top-up prices advertised nowhere.
  • Expressions loop past roughly 45 minutes. The model repeats itself and misses your cues. It carries a short session, not a long one.
  • The free tier shows you nothing that matters. Safe-for-work only, blurred images, a handful of messages, then mandatory registration. Push a call toward anything intimate and the frame stays blurred behind a lock icon. That is why it rates filtered rather than uncensored: nothing is off limits in substance, nothing is visible before you pay.
  • No mobile app, and the generator is awkward from a phone browser. Launched late 2025, so there is barely any track record.

One thing here is genuinely rare: the operator is DevPro s.r.o., Nitra, Slovakia, an EU-registered company with a full address and an Impressum. Billing reads “DevPro s.r.o. Nitra”, not the service name. Pricing: $12.99 monthly, $9.99 quarterly, $5.99 annual.

JOI AI: a live call, billed by the five minutes

JOI AI does what everyone else stops short of: a live video call rather than a pre-rendered clip. Several catalogue cards carry a pink “Video Calls” badge, and it is the feature the publisher leans on hardest.

Then you look at the meter. A live call costs 2,000 Neurons per five minutes. On the same currency an image is 50 Neurons, a clip 100, a romantic-mode message 2. Five minutes of calling costs twenty clips, roughly $36 at the pricier end of the top-up rates reviewers report.

The free balance is nowhere near it: 10 Neurons at signup, plus up to 200 for linking Discord or a referral. A 210-Neuron ceiling against a 2,000-Neuron call. You can judge the conversation free. Not the thing you came for.

Quality is the second problem. One reviewer who paid to test a call called the video “laggy, lip-sync was off,” the whole thing “jittery and awkward” and “far too expensive for the poor quality you get.” Another flagged that the feature still carries a “beta” label inside the product.

Two more things: the adult register is locked behind a paid plan entirely, and everything is built around English. The operator is Novi Limited, Nicosia, Cyprus (HE 407352), and its privacy policy never mentions encryption. Subscription: $17.77 monthly, $26.66 quarterly, $60.95 a year, Neurons metered on top.

Candy.ai, Nemora and Lovescape: video without the call

Candy.ai does not do a call, and it still has the most interesting video here. Live Action generates up to 120 seconds of your character moving, gesturing, blinking and reacting, from one prompt rather than clips stitched end to end. Automatic Story Mode lets the model build the scene; Scenario Mode hands you control. On selected characters it goes further: interactive scenes you steer in real time, where you send a direction and she responds on camera instead of in text. That is the closest anything gets to the cam feeling without calling itself a call. A clip runs roughly 5 to 10 tokens: cheap per unit, expensive by the fifth in a session.

Nemora wires video into a game. Its scenarios run as scored mini-games with a hidden threshold, and clearing a level unlocks a short reward clip. Costs are unusually legible: 100 coins a standard video, 300 for HD, 20 an image, against 1,000 coins a month included. Ten standard clips, or three HD. Text costs nothing on a paid plan.

Lovescape leads on stills and admits its video is still beta, more conservative than its images. Its counter is the tight one: 600 tokens a month on Premium, with no published unit price for an image, so 600 converts into nothing you can plan around.

What a video call really costs

App Live call Generated video Cheapest paid entry The meter that decides your bill
FlirtCam Simulated Yes $5.99 annual, $12.99 monthly ~1,000 tokens, top-ups unpublished
JOI AI Live, beta Yes $5.08 annual, $17.77 monthly 2,000 Neurons per 5 min, 100 per clip
Candy.ai No Live Action, 120s $3.99 annual, $13.99 monthly ~5 to 10 tokens a clip
Nemora No Standard and HD $3.99 annual, $12.99 monthly 100 coins standard, 300 HD, 1,000/mo
Lovescape No Beta $71.88/year Premium 600 tokens/mo, no unit price published
Promptchan No Yes, plus voice calls $14.99/mo Plus ~18 Gems a video, full video on $33.99 Pro

Read the last column, not the fourth. A $12.99 subscription and a $17.77 one tell you nothing about what an evening costs. The meter decides that.

Text is cheap or free on a paid plan, images are affordable, video empties a balance faster than anything else. If you plan to call rather than chat, price one call and multiply.

How to test free, and the traps to watch

The free tiers are wildly unequal, and knowing which ones let you judge the video saves a wasted month.

  • OurDream AI has the most honest one: 50 messages a day and 55 tokens, enough to see real rendering on your own niche. Its video does five and ten second clips, talking videos with synced voice, and image-to-video, at a roughly 40% failure rate it owns up to.
  • Promptchan gives a daily Gem allowance with no card and blurs nothing. Dial in a fully explicit pose on a fictional character and it delivers in one pass, no upsell.
  • Candy.ai lets you browse, chat and run limited images free. Price a Live Action clip before generating a second.
  • FlirtCam, JOI AI and Nemora gate exactly the part you came for: their free tiers show the interface, not the product. Kindroid is the reverse, voice calls and short video on one subscription, and no free tier at all.

Now the traps. Nemora’s permanent “up to 80% off” banner runs a clock that restarts around the 15-minute mark on every reload: the annual discount underneath is genuine, the countdown selling it is theatre. On JOI AI, a call gets billed in full even if you hang up early. On Promptchan, undownloaded clips vanish after 24 hours. And motion always looks worse than the stills that sold you, Candy.ai’s Live Action inheriting the extra fingers and warped faces of its images, except now they move.

A face reacting on camera is still a model predicting the next frame, not someone waiting for your call. Worth keeping clear before the top-ups start feeling like a phone bill for someone who does not exist.

Questions people actually type before they buy

Is any of this a real live call, or is it pre-recorded? Both exist. JOI AI renders live and prices it like it. FlirtCam simulates the call format with generated video. Everything else renders clips on request.

Can I get an AI video call for free? Not meaningfully. On the apps that offer a call, the free balance sits below the cost of one. You can test the conversation and the interface free, and on OurDream AI and Promptchan the generation quality itself.

Do any do voice calls instead of video? Yes, and far cheaper. Nomi includes unlimited voice calls on every paid tier, with an in-house V3 engine that adds laughter, sighs and breathing. Promptchan charges 2 Gems a call, locked to its $33.99 Pro plan. Secret Desires AI prices voice at roughly one Heart per 30 seconds and adds voice cloning, though a structured test scored it 2.8 out of 5.

Is there a mobile app? Rarely. FlirtCam, JOI AI, Candy.ai, Nemora, Lovescape and OurDream AI are web only. Promptchan ships iOS; Kindroid and Nomi are on both stores.

Does the video match what she just said? The right question, and the one we dug into in how realistic AI cams actually are.

Bottom line

If the call itself is the point, FlirtCam is the only app built around it end to end, and the only one here with an identifiable EU operator. Annual billing, and treat tokens as the real budget line.

If you want a genuinely live render and accept beta quality, JOI AI does it. Price one call in Neurons first.

If you want the best-looking motion and do not care whether it is framed as a call, Candy.ai’s Live Action wins, on the cheapest annual plan here.

Start free wherever a free tier is real, price a clip before generating a second, and run the token versus unlimited maths before committing to a year.
